BLUE AND ... BLACK

Unpredictable Beauty

When it comes to design inspiration, the unexpected is the best.  It lets you explore new ideas and experiment with new pathways.  Baby blue and black is an unusual combination, possible due to the connotations tied to baby blue.  Ignoring the conventional and stereotyped, this image conveys the splendour of the combination.

Dark Elegance

Another rebellion against convention is this black and navy scheme.  A bright enough navy will stand out against the black and create grandeur and supremacy.  Although the colours are set against a white backdrop, the rich wooden floor lifts warmth into the decor.

This daring scheme is off set by a calm grey backdrop allowing the vibrant accessories to dominate the design.  So often drama is created with deep, moody tones, but with bright tones and bold shapes, this design oozes confidence.

PINK AND ... GREY

Soft Warmth

A palett of soft grey, baby pink and rich gold creates perfect tranquility in this drawing room scheme.  The warm colour has been introduced subtly through fresh flowers and books, and more substantially through the curtains.  Consider the balance when inputting clour against a backdrop and ensure it is evenly spread for a completed look.

Winter Blush

During the winter months, you may wish to opt for a cosier colour palette.  With changeble accesories, the grey and pink scheme is adaptable to the English extremities and can look inviting after a long autumnal walk.  Cushions, vases and rugs are all accents that can be changed to make a big difference to your space.

Baby Hues

Mix baby blues and pinks with a bold black and white scheme to create a contemporary Moroccan scheme.  Introducing colours through artwork and pattern has created a balance in this set with the pinks assuming horizontal symmetry while the blues assume vertical symmetry. 

COLOURING BLOCKS

Injecting colour to a specific part of the room can often be more effective than a blanket of colour througut.  draw attention to a statement piece, or a favourite area in the room by taking this technique to the extreme.  One item in the room in a striking colour-way can add focus and depth to your space.  If you love it, accentuate it!

Zesty Seating

Being brave with this bright yellow sofa, instantly brightens the room and draws your eye to the seating area.  This will have a positive effect on guests, who will also be naturally drawn to this sociable area of the room.  Coupled with the flamboyant zebra print rug, the vibrant yellow infuses fun into what might have been a very formal design. 

Green Focus

The chandelier here has been used in a very similar way to the sofa above.  The injection of colour lifts this formal design and gives it a more contemporary edge.  The simplicity of the rest of the design allows the chandelier to flourish, and the use of colour in the air, allows the piece to breathe and demand its own presence.

Breakfast Bar Brights

In a new direction, this room does not assume a black and white colour scheme, but has opted for less contrast, using black with neutral tones.  The general decor is low key, allowing the seating to take pride of place within the room  Again, guests will naturally gravitate to this area allowing for more sociable cooking.

Double Block

Key areas of block colour can be more interesting than a single colour.  Make sure you do not have too many areas of colour as this will not give the impression of colour in blocks.  Try colours that are not usually used together and in small amounts. 

Natural Flair

Using fresh flowers in the bathroom is a must.  Here the designer has colour coordinated with the strong coloured accessory creating a bold flash of colour in several ares of the room.  Carefully placing the colour and using a mirror to reflect injects further areas of colour in the room.
